Walking in Freedom

The goal of reentry is to improve public safety by providing offenders with services that are perceived to reduce the risk of recidivism and to improve integration into the community.

Four challenges to prisoner reentry and potential solutions to each problem.
  • Challenge #1: Not Knowing Where to Begin.
  • Challenge #2: Family Strain.
  • Challenge #3: Finding Employment.
  • Challenge #4: Mental Health Issues.

Interventions must address health, employment, housing, skill development, mentorship, and social networks, as these factors have the most significant impact on reentry success.

I have witnessed the elderly many times not able to pay their co-pays. I have paid them myself even though I have successfully managed the challenge of parenting  five strong young men. can certainly identify  with the challenge of single parenting. Helping others to succeed is how I give back.

Patricia Walls Director

I've volunteered at shelters, community outreach in the DMV  for more than three decades.   For more than a decade I volunteered with Volunteers of America as well as Aglow International as a  Mentor to women incarcerated at the Arlington County Detention Center. I was also  a volunteer Chaplain at DC General Hospital, in Washington D.C.   where I was a volunteer Chaplain in the lock-up ward of the hospital as well as the general hospital itself.  We have recently volunteered at the Arlington County Detention Center where we give Spiritual Guidance, encourage, motivate connect inmates with the proper resources and tools in aiding them for Re-Entry to society and following up ensuring Employment, Housing, Workforce and Substance Abuse Programs.

I received  Volunteer of the Year Award at Bailey’s Crossroads Shelter in Falls Church, Virginia in 2015.  Ordained as a Pastor in 2002 under the leadership of Apostle James Mills whom  I continued to serve in the communities of the DMV as well as Philadelphia.  I myself am a survivor of molestation, rape, spousal abuse, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, NAFLD, (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) anxiety, divorce, depression, and obesity.

Donnell Shaw COO

Born and and raised in the inner city of Washington DC where young black men were killing one another on a consistent basis. I attended a school where young people would be subjected to violence, bullying,  drugs and unfortunately much mor.  Under the mentorship of Patty Walls I was encouraged motivated inspired and miraculously given a scholarship to attend University of Vermont where I graduated.

I am currently employed, married and a father. I can relate up close and personal with the Millenniums of this era. Our generation can overcome the obstacles frustrations disappointments and many challenges of overcoming this age. Raised by my mother and grandmother for the most part, there were many avenues I visited in my teens. Ms. Walls walked me through a Faith Journey when the thought of suicide entered my mind at a very early age in my teens. Sounds strange, however I heard her voice saying, "Don't Do It".  I am extremely grateful that she was there for me down through more than ten years.

I am blessed that God kept me from prison, drugs, premature death and all of the challenges this life brings.
